“Stories For Christmas” – Weston Skaggs

Its getting to be that time of year again! We’re getting that fireplace going again, donning more layers of flannel than usual and rediscovering some of our favorite classic seasonal albums.

As your heart starts to warm up to the spirit of Advent, we at Old Bear Records are proud to share with you our latest release, STORIES FOR CHRISTMAS! by Weston Skaggs. The whole team here dug deep into our childhood nostalgia in crafting the songs and sounds for this one. Influenced by the charming homemade feel of many classic Christmas albums, we feel we have been able to produce a record that is timeless and can hold it’s own proudly alongside your “go to” favorites.

PREPARE HIM ROOM is the song that we are directing all of our worship leader friends to check out and consider adding to their rotation this year. It is a rousing worship anthem that thematically borrows from (and melodically nods to) Joy to the World in the way that views Christmas through the lens of Christ setting up His eternal kingdom.

WISE MEN STILL SEEK HIM

This throwback track feels so comfortable it could have been penned and recorded in the 50’s, 60’s, or 70’s and yet it somehow still feels current as well.

DICKENS SONG

This indie-pop sleigh ride was inspired by this quote:

“I will honour Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, the Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all Three shall strive within me. I will not shut out the lessons that they teach!” ― Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol

BETHLEHEM TOWN

Who doesn’t love a good villain song? Here Weston takes the narrative of the wise men and Herod from Matthew and makes it into a lurchingly-cinematic Grinch-like tune.

WAS IT REALLY A SILENT NIGHT

As with Weston’s song Pocket Size god, his writing at times uses humor to get us to look at a subject differently- in this instance focusing on the messy nature of Christ’s incarnation.
