We asked Ian to write us a letter to our Old Bear Records family why this release is so important to him..
“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Luke 6:45
I once had a conversation with a good friend about song lyrics. I was telling him about what Jesus said in Luke 6:45; and that it was not only applicable to speech but also applicable to song lyrics. I told him that song lyrics are a window that allows a listener to see inside the heart of the person singing them.I’ll admit that during the past two years of writing, recording, and touring that has preceded the release of this album, there have been times when I’ve wondered what it is that fills my heart? Many times during these two years – my heart seemed to be filling with disappointment, despair, sadness, anger, fear, doubt, and insecurity. But with every one of those emotions that would fight for lordship over my heart – I would experience little resurrections that would rise up to overwhelm and fight back against every emotion that would push me against a wall or throw a sucker punch at me. The voice of truth would beckon me to trust and have faith. The arms of love would pick me up and carry me when my legs were too tired to walk. The promise of hope would remind me that I was made for more. The grace of God would invite me to sit and rest in safety and security at the table of the Lord.
And it was from this place that the songs were written. It was from this place that the album was recorded.
But there is something beyond the music that you’ll hear that I have discovered that is most precious to me of all. Out of the abundance of my heart I wrote an album. And that album is all about Jesus.
In spite of the emotions that seek to govern my life and decisions; my heart belongs to the King of Love. My heart is full of God still. And my song points to Jesus. This album is evidence of that.
So, thank you for sharing this experience with me. I pray that this album reminds you that there is grace for every failing; hope beyond despair; freedom from every chain; rest from every burden; and a place at the Table of God for you.”
